Restoring powder-coated aluminium frames involves a five-step process designed for the type of joinery found in around 90% of New Zealand homes built since 2000.
Our five step method involves:
1. Surfaces are prepared to remove dirt, oxidation and built-up residue
2. Light sanding to remove surface build-up
3. Thorough removal of oxidation
4. Surface neutralisation to restore a pH-neutral finish
5. Two coats of a UV-stable protective first coat that air-dries in about 20 minutes
Heavily worn frames may need more of the old surface removed to ensure the new coating bonds properly. The system comes from Australia and has a 15-year track record in high-UV and harsh-climate conditions.
All work is backed by a five-year written guarantee, with the coating expected to last beyond that. Restoration is also available for doors and other exterior features. For details on aluminium joinery, see the Aluminium Joinery Restoration page.
