Aluminium window frame restoration and recoating services

Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Auckland

A practical alternative to expensive replacement

Replacement is usually the more expensive and drawn-out option. Aluminium restoration avoids removing joinery and reduces the mess often associated with replacement work. When frames and doors become chalky and faded, the whole exterior can quickly look tired.

Oxidisation also builds up over time, making cleaning frustrating and short-lived. Many people are told replacement is the only answer. Protect Shield takes a different approach: removing the oxidisation properly, then applying a UV-stable clear coat to bring the original colour back to life.

Most homes are completed in three to five hours, usually by one licensed applicator rather than a crew being on site for days. The typical cost is around 30% of replacement.

Clear pricing and real savings

Pricing is clear from the start. Three-bedroom, single-storey homes start from $1,500. Garage doors and other one-off items are quoted separately. Two-storey homes and larger properties are quoted on site, so access and current condition can be properly assessed.

Commercial and multi-unit jobs are also scoped in person.

Restoration can often save up to 70% compared with replacement, and around 90% of aluminium joinery can be restored to a high standard without major cost. Once quoted, your price is fixed, with no unexpected extras.

Five-step process for a lasting finish

Restoration follows five steps: cleaning, light sanding, oxidation removal, pH neutralisation and application of a UV-stable top coat. Surfaces are prepared so the finish bonds properly and lasts, with oxidation removed rather than covered up.

The aim is to restore the original colour, not to carry out a full repaint or colour change.

Most homes are completed in a day, without the need for full masking or wrapping. The coating flash cures in about 20 minutes, so work can often continue between showers.

Protection suited to New Zealand conditions

The system is water-based, non-toxic and has been proven for more than 15 years in Australia. In the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Auckland, strong UV and salt air can be harsh on powder-coated aluminium, so the right coating system matters.

The process restores colour, then adds a protective top coat suited to local sun and coastal exposure. If joinery is more weathered, preparation is adjusted during the site visit and on the day. After restoration, cleaning is simple with a normal wash.

Packages for homes and commercial sites

Options cover houses, townhouses, duplexes, rest homes and small to medium-sized industrial units. The same aluminium joinery restoration process applies beyond windows and doors, including garage doors, gutters, fascia and pool fencing. For commercial sites, timing can be planned around business hours where required.

Dent repairs are not included, but contacts for other trades can be shared if needed. Frames remain in place throughout the job, and any coating that gets onto glass is removed before completion. Licensed applicators follow the same process in every region.

Restoration is covered by a five-year warranty. If something is not right, a return visit will sort it. A lifespan of 10 years or more is the expected outcome.

Exterior aluminium restoration packages improve the appearance of frames and doors, reduce replacement costs and keep the exterior looking well cared for. Quotes are fixed after a site visit in the Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Waikato.

Frequently asked questions for Exterior Aluminium Restoration Packages

If frames are solid but faded or oxidised, restoration is often the more sensible option on cost. A site visit checks condition and talks through the options, including when replacement makes more sense for your plans. More on window frame restoration is available for comparison.

Key cost drivers are surface condition, total area, access and how far oxidisation has progressed. Coastal exposure and darker colours can need extra prep. Fixed pricing is provided after a site check. More detail on aluminium joinery restoration is covered elsewhere.

Durability depends on preparation, exposure and basic washing now and then. The system has been proven in Australia for more than 15 years and carries a five-year warranty.

Packages generally include cleaning, oxidisation removal, surface prep and applying the protective top coat. Any extras or special items are confirmed in your quote. The aluminium restoration process is explained in more detail step by step.

Work is completed on site with frames left in place. Access and timing are discussed during quoting and the approach is kept practical and tidy. For larger or multi-unit projects, see commercial aluminium frame restoration or get in touch to arrange a quote.
